9th Annual Temecula Wine & Music Festival to Benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Counties

On Saturday May 4th, join Grammy nominated and award-winning artists as they set the rhythm for a weekend of relaxation and good times at Vail Lake Resort. The 9th Annual Temecula Wine & Music Festival brought to you by KMYT 94.5 and produced by Apaulo Music Productions will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest County, a local non-profit charity.

Enjoy talented musicians performing everything from jazz to R&B. “With world class artists, award-winning wineries and the beautiful venue at Vail Lake Resort, this year’s event is sure to be the most spectacular Festival that you don’t want to miss!” says Michael Paulo, event producer. Vail Lake Resort is located 10 miles east from the 15 freeway and 5 miles from Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula.

This year’s artists include Singer/Songwriter Brenda Russell, Saxophonist Warren Hill, Composer/Producer/International Recording Artist Patrice Rushen, Festival Producer and World-Renowned Saxophonist Michael Paulo, Recording Artist/Guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr., Keyboardist/Composer Gregg Karukas, Guitarist Chris Standring, Japanese Saxaphonist Kanzaki, Violinist Antonio Pontarelli, Hawaii’s Piano Legend Rene Paulo, Drummer Michael White, Jazz vocalist Sherry Williams, and Bassist Freddie Washington.

Tickets start at $45 with Gold Preferred Seating at $65 and Platinum Seating at $120. Discounts are available for military, students and groups on general admission tickets. Platinum ticket holders will receive delicious cuisine prepared by Chef Volker from Vineyard Gourmet Catering.

The festival offers a great wine tasting experience with ten of California’s popular and award winning wineries participating in this year’s event. Sipping wine while listening to jazz under the oaks…it doesn’t get much better than that! This year wineries include Canyon Crest Winery, Chateau St. Michelle, Francis Coppola, Ispiri Winery, Lorimar, Monte De Oro, Phoenix Hellas, San Antonio, South Coast Winery, and Wilson Creek.


Brenda Russell – with a unique musical perspective, intimate voice and prolific treasure-trove of lyrics, singer-songwriter Brenda Russell proves that a truly glowing talent only deepens with time. Composer of the classics “Get Here,” “If Only For One Night,” and the Grammy-nominated “Piano In The Dark,” Brenda’s songwriting prowess and chameleon-like ability to shift between musical genres and combine styles trumpeted ovations in 2005 with the opening of the Tony Award-winning hit Broadway musical The Color Purple–a show for which she, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray co-wrote the music and lyrics.

Brenda and her co-authors were also nominated for a 2007 Grammy in the Best Musical Show Album category for the original cast album. “I am a citizen of the world and believe in peace and love to all people. That is what I write about and what I sing about. It’s the motivating force behind everything I do and the way I live. I want my music to bring people together.”

Warren Hill – currently working on several projects including a new CD and his daughters CD and next film, his online Sax Club with student members from around the globe, concert promotion and an innovative new internet music series. Since 1991, Warren has released 11 solo CD’s which have reached combined worldwide sales of over 1 million copies. His live show is critically acclaimed as one of the best in his genre and has taken him around the globe.

Patrice Rushen – Multi-Grammy nominated artist, Patrice Rushen, is fashioning her career after the legacy of her long-time friend and mentor, Quincy Jones. Admired by many for her groundbreaking achievements, Rushen has amassed an impressive list of “firsts”. She was the first woman to serve as Musical Director for the 46th, 47th & 48th Annual Grammy Awards, the first woman in 43 years to serve as Head Composer/Musical Director for television’s highest honor, the Emmy Awards and the first woman Musical Director of the NAACP Image Awards, an honor she held for 12 consecutive years.

Rushen has also been the only woman Musical Director/Composer for the Peoples Choice Awards and HBO’s Comic Relief. She was the only woman Musical Director/Conductor/Arranger for a late-night television talk show. The show was The Midnight Hour, which aired on CBS.

Considered one of the world’s top jazz pianists, Rushen has performed with and produced for such esteemed artists as Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Prince, Lionel Hampton, Carlos Santana, Boys II Men, George Benson, Jean Luc Ponty, Tom Jones, Nancy Wilson, Michael Jackson, Dianne Reeves, Sheena Easton, Stanley Turentine, Joshua Redman and on and on. She has played at some of the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals and events.

Michael Paulo – World Renowned Saxophonist, Festival Producer and Host Michael Paulo is a multi-talented artist with ten solo records to date. His most recent outing features the talented arranging of Pianist David Benoit along with a 40 piece symphony orchestra. With over 3 decades of experience in the music business Michael is not only a talented saxophonist but also is involved with producing the Pacific Rim Jazz festival, The popular Grooves in The Grove series at La Quinta Resort and Spa and numerous Smooth Jazz concerts in Hawaii from where he hails. It’s through his numerous relationships that the festival is able to bring in such world class talent. He is also an artist in residence at The world famous Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival. Michael currently resides in the Temecula Valley.

Paul Jackson Jr. – In addition to being a recording artist in his own right, Jackson is also a highly accomplished and most sought after L.A. session player, with a career spanning multiple decades. He has supported artists ranging from Michael Jackson to the Temptations, Whitney Houston, Thomas Anders, Patti Labelle and Luis Michel, to rockers such as Chicago and Elton John, to jazz greats such as George Duke, Dave Koz, Al Jarreau, Davit Benoit, Marcus Miller and Kirk Whalum and to Christian artists such as Leon Patillo and Don Moen. Jackson can be seen playing guitar in a wide variety of styles on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and American Idol. Not only is he a great guitarist but he is also a great and humble man. He let’s his guitar to the talking and boy does it say a lot!

Gregg Karukas – Gregg Karukas is one of the moist sought after smooth jazz pianists and composer today, He experimented with keyboards as a child, but it was not until his teens that he pursued music professionally. Gradually, he developed a melodic and soulful style of music that made him a mainstay on smooth jazz Karukas strives to write music that evokes strong emotions. His best-known singles, “Girl in the Red Dress” and “Nightshift”, reflect a funky, smooth jazzy styling familiar to his fans.

With eleven solo albums and many sessions and tours with prominent jazz artists, Gregg Karukas has established himself as one of the leading musicians in Smooth Jazz.Gregg has been all over the airwaves recently, featured on Jessy’s debut #1 single “Tequila Moon,” and Rick Braun and Richard Elliot’s smash hit “RnR”. He is also featured on The Rippingtons’ latest, Modern Art and 20th Anniversary, reuniting with Russ Freeman, Dave Koz, David Benoit and many other top name musicians who appeared the groundbreaking 1986 album Moonlighting. Some of his recent projects include tours with Rick Braun, Peter White, Larry Carlton, LA Chillharmonic, Java Jazz West Coast All-Stars (Jakarta) and The Tribute to the Jazzmasters.

Chris Standring – The success of Chris Standring’s groundbreaking 2010 CD Blue Bolero, which topped several year-end lists and produced a No. 1 single, made it a tough act for the guitarist to follow. But Standring has managed quite nicely with Electric Wonderland (March 20, 2012, Ultimate Vibe Recordings), a 10-song CD of original songs that fuses elements of Blue Bolero’s orchestral touches with a deft jazz-pop touch that’s been a hallmark of Standring’s stellar career.

“I feel like it’s an extension of Blue Bolero, but a bit more playful and upbeat,” says Standring. “And it also came out much dreamier. I’m playing electric guitar, so I wanted to merge the two when naming the CD.” In addition to his steady spot on the contemporary jazz charts, Standring is also a popular performer with his solo shows and with package tours. In March, he’ll be performing for the first time at the esteemed Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia. He’ll also be on stage in his native England and in his adopted United States, where he’s lived in Southern California for 20 years.

Antonio Pontarelli – At the young age of 21, Antonio has already accomplished a lifetime of work. He was concertmaster of the San Diego Youth Symphony from 2003 to 2005, winner of seven violin competitions as well as numerous other national and international music awards, is further known as a singer/songwriter and electric violinist. He has performed for National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences events, music festivals, rock concerts and USA television broadcasts with Grammy award-winning musicians.
