Annual ECO-Oscars event benefits Music Saves Lives and Fur Fitness

Historic Pickford Mansion where the Eco-Oscars were held and where "The Artist" was filmed

Sustainable film and television producer Debbie Durkin successfully hosted her annual ECO-OSCARS Music, Celebrity and Pet Style Lounge to coincide with Hollywood’s biggest night. The all-day event (which took place on the two days before the Oscars) benefited Music Saves Lives and Fur Fitness Foundation at the breathtaking Pickford Mansion where (the 5-time Oscar winner) “The Artist” was filmed.

Honorees and guests arrived throughout the day to be pampered and gifted with eco-luxury lifestyle brands such as Minky Couture, Solz Shoes, Hugrz Boot Wraps, Stone Soup Designs, OXY Water, eco-friendly designer original patched jeans from Sonas Denim, D’Mademoiselle Pure Mineral Makeup and Skintastic skin care products, “Red Carpet Pet” Dog Treats, celebrity brow and lash expert Stefanie G, Socially Sweet Cupcakes featuring Oscar-themed mini cupcakes, cookie sandwiches, and more.

“While not every product featured here is 100 percent green, every one here is taking tremendous steps towards sustainability,” Durkin said. “I want to highlight those who are aware and making the effort to be as eco-friendly as possible.”

One of the most refreshing parts of the event were the drinks being served on such a sweltering LA day: Kanon Organic Vodka‘s signature rosemary lemonade and the “Kanon Firecracker,” as well as LifeSource water served in reusable bottles (the company is known for their eco-friendly home water system).

Music Saves Lives featured live acoustic performances while promoting blood drives for the American Red Cross. Musical performances were by Jenni Alpert, Mark Baldonado, Zach Callison, Ryan Boone, Pablo Blaqk, Aaron Novak, Kellie Lee, CeeJ, Doc Holiday, Poor Man’s Poison and It Boys. Fur Fitness hosted a Red Carpet Pets area where guests and their four-legged friends were able to pose for pet portraits. They also designed and painted signature pet bowls that will be auctioned off for charity.Suzanne Lindley, founder of Yes! Beat Liver Tumors was also on hand deLIVERing HOPE, awareness, support, resources, and sharing information about her 501c3 organization.

Guests included Oscar nominees Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin (now Oscar winners for Best Documentary, “Undefeated” — see our interview with one of the film’s producers Rich Middlemas) and Rebecca Cammisa(Documentary Short, “God is the Bigger Elvis”).

Also in attendance were Dennis Haysbert (“Luv”), Willie Gault (former Chicago Bears football player), Raphael Sbarge (“Once Upon a Time”), Laurie Holden (“The Walking Dead”), Wes Ramsey (“CSI: Miami”), green activist Rachelle Carson-Begley (whose book Silent Spring is often credited with catapulting the environmental movement to center stage), Brad Sherwood (“Whose Line is it Anyway”), Chef Bernie Guzman (“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”), Barbara Alyn Woods (“The Gates” and “One Tree Hill”), Tanya Memme (“Sell This House: Extreme”) and Emily Alyn Lind (“Revenge”).

The eco-luxury was all in the name of two great causes — Music Saves Lives is the bridge between music, entertainment and important life-saving causes such as blood donation and the bone marrow registry.

Fur Fitness Foundation provides educational resources and help to pet parents navigating the confusing world of pet health, fitness and nutrition. The Foundation puts a special emphasis on helping pet parents and veterinarians address the sadly growing trend of pet obesity.

Durkin’s next event is the “Rockn Rolla” ECO MTV Movie Awards Lounge on June 1 and 2 in Los Angeles.
