Art Beyond the Glass ll: L.A.’s Top Bartenders Gather for Cocktails, Community and a Cause

Los Angeles bartenders are among the most imaginative in the world when it comes to the art of creating cocktails, and many of them also have an artistic side outside their bars. On June 30, 2013, dozens of LA’s top bartenders will gather for Art Beyond the Glass ll, a unique fundraising event that features cocktails, art, music and more, entirely created and performed by bartenders. ABTG II is taking place from 3:30-7:30 pm at the historic Los Angeles Athletic Club in downtown Los Angeles, with proceeds going to Art Share LA, a nonprofit located in downtown LA.

Building on an inaugural event that many guests dubbed “the party of the year,” Art Beyond the Glass llfeatures an expanded lineup of bartenders showcasing their artistry within and beyond the glass, including painting, photography, illustration, music and more. Among the bartenders participating again this year are Julian Cox (Soigné Group); Matthew Biancaniello (Cliff’s Edge); bartender/artist Brian Butler (Sunny Spot); bartender/artist Justin Pike (The Tasting Kitchen); singer Laura Lindsay (Connie & Ted’s); and DJs Dave Fernie (Pour Vous) and Steve Livigni (Old Lightning). First time participants include Beau DuBois (The Corner Door); artist Brittini Rae Peterson (Goldie’s); DJ Dino Balocchi (Littlefork); bartender/DJ Paul Sanguinetti (Patina Group); and furniture designer Philip Renderer (Seven Grand). As the emcee, Neat owner Aidan Demarest (Tello Demarest Liquid Assets) will no doubt make his first appearance at ABTG one to remember.

Art Beyond the Glass is the brainchild of Zahra Bates, Cole’s Red Car Bar Senior Bartender, and Daniel Djang, Founder and Editor of the cocktail and spirits blog,Thirsty in LA (www.thirstyinla.com). “There was so much love, energy and good will from that first Art Beyond The Glass,” Djang recalls. “The excitement has been building for a year, and we can’t wait to see everyone again.” Adds Bates, “We love our people, and any chance we have to shine a spotlight on them, we’ll take it.”

This year’s event will take place at the Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) in downtown L.A., including the members-only Invention bar, the recently opened project from Liquid Assets. Besides Invention, there are other spaces and a few surprises awaiting guests at the historic LAAC, which opened in 1880. LAAC Executive Chef and his team will prepare complimentary bites and tray-passed apps throughout the event.

Proceeds from Art Beyond the Glass II will go to Art Share LA, a vital non-profit that supports the arts, located in the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles. Art Share LA has a 28,000 square-foot warehouse with 30 subsidized live/work lofts for artists, along with a community-programmed facility that offers classes, exhibitions and events.

“After researching a number of local non-profits, we found that many aspects of Art Share LA really resonated with us,” Djang explains. “From its Arts District location in downtown to its mission to strengthen the community through its arts programs and affordable live/work spaces for artists, we felt it was right in line with what we wanted to express with the event.”

The all-inclusive tickets include cocktails, spirit tastings, bar bites and  live entertainment. In addition to online ticket sales, funds will be raised through raffle tickets, silent auction, and other items. For the first time, guests will be able to purchase bartender art, with a portion of sales going to Art Share.

Based on what some of these amazing talents have told us they’re working on for ABTG II, this year’s edition promises to be a fantastic event!”
