If you are interested in the media business, and want to hear industry leaders talk about the state of the media industry, about business models, copyrights, and paradigm shifts, DEW Expo might be just what you need. Held at the lovely Hyatt Regency Century City, on the ‘Avenue of the Stars’ — across the street from one of Hollywood’s top talent agencies CAA — this event is well positioned to give you a taste of the entertainment business. The event was very classy, and nicely put together.
The structure of the conference is larger ‘keynote’ discussions and then ‘breakout’ sessions in smaller rooms. There are startup competitions, and sponsor booths sharing the latest technology and media products and services available.
The event did not serve lunch, but did offer coffee and some refreshments. The lunch options offered by the even were uninspired. The hotel has multiple options to grab a bite, and a wonderful bevy of locations to grab a drink. There are fun options inside and lots of seating out by the pools. If you don’t mind a little walk, hardly a block away is the Westfield Century City, a mall just across the street to the West. The mall has many food options and offers high-end shopping as well.
It’s a fun and educational event, with lots to see and do within walking distance. The event for next year has already set a date!
