“Beverly Hills” brings all sorts of images to mind for both locals and visitors. It may be one of the world’s most sought-after locales, but it’s also one of the more centrally located places to meet or visit in greater Los Angeles where you make your plans based on traffic and convenience, rather than the other way around.
With acclaimed full-service and boutique hotels, sumptuous dining, and yes, shopping, Beverly Hills is not only known for expensive designer shops along Rodeo Drive and expansive mansions, but also for its multitude of art and architecture, spas and salons, and exceptional walkability. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the city’s incorporation in 2014, Beverly Hills has been gearing up for city-wide celebrations that kicked off this summer. On the horizon for the city is a new theater, Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.
This Fall, here’s our list for the best of BH:
1) Join the thousands who flock to the popular Beverly Hills artSHOW each fall to wander through beautiful Beverly Gardens Park while perusing the works of more than 250 talented artists from around the country. The outdoor show features artwork in a variety of categories including mixed media, painting, sculpture, jewelry design, pottery and photography.
Attendees have a unique opportunity to meet the artists and discuss the inspiration for their work. This favorite community event will also include food options from local food trucks, a wine and beer garden and art projects for the kids.
This year, Beverly Hills’ Mayor will personally select a work from one of the gifted artists to be permanently displayed in the lobby of a new building which houses the Visitor Center and the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce. Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21 from 10 am – 5 pm. This is a free event! More info here.
2) The wait is over! After temporarily closing its doors in July, Wolfgang Puck’s Spago is now reopened after extensive renovations, both to its décor and menu. The restaurant has been reinvented with a bright white, contemporary interior and several new innovative dishes added to its iconic menu including Jidori chicken leg and breast with pastrami and sautéed sweet corn atop a corn pureé.
Over on Restaurant Row, check out The Phoenix, Beverly Hills’ newest lounge/bar and one that has a more rustic and weathered feel with country barn doors at the entrance and whitewashed rafters inside. This countrified upscale bar serves up high-end beers, specialty cocktails and a gaming area with darts, pool and shuffleboard. Read LA Eater’s review here.
3) Help rescue one of the many dogs and cats at this year’s Bow Wow Beverly Hills “Rescue Dog”event on Thursday, October 25. The evening will be sponsored by and benefits The Amanda Foundation, a nonprofit organization that since 1976 has saved thousands of dogs and cats by finding them good homes.
Help this incredible organization kick off an adoption-filled Halloween weekend with a VIP champagne reception at Tiffany & Co.’s Rodeo Drive location on October 25 from 6:30-7:30 pm. After, guests will be treated to a Halloween party and doggy costume contest along with passed hors d’oeuvres and beverages on Via Rodeo from 7:30-10:30 pm.
Animal lovers and caring citizens may purchase tickets on The Amanda Foundation website. Several boutiques at Two Rodeo Drive and along Rodeo Drive will feature rescue dogs, available for adoption, at their location throughout the October 26-28 weekend. Learn more here.
4) Beverly Hills hotels are offering a unique opportunity to extend the pleasures of summer and experience the city during one of the most exciting seasons of the year. This fall, when you stay a minimum of two nights at one of their participating hotels during the “Fall Into Luxury” promotion, you will be treated to a complimentary room upgrade (based on availability at time of booking) and a $100 hotel credit valid toward services or amenities in the hotel.
Use your $100 credit to indulge in a spa treatment, dine at the hotel’s restaurants, enjoy classic cocktails in the lounge or gift yourself with select merchandise from the hotel shops. The promotion is available now through December 30, 2012. Click here for a list of participating hotels and more info.
